PROGRAM OVERVIEW

If your goal is to become a school principal, this program will help you acquire a wide range of knowledge and skills that are designed to prepare you to assume the role of an instructional leader. You will analyze and apply cutting-edge pedagogical theory to teaching practices and become a master teacher who shows others how to orchestrate assessment, diversity, technique, and technology within the context of contemporary education.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

In addition to career-relevant coursework, this program includes 30 hours of field experience (6 courses) to complete half of the PDE-required 360 internship hours. The remaining 180 hours are completed during a 6-credit internship. Field hours consist of “job-embedded” activities supported by the on-site mentoring of an experienced principal and the supervision of a University Internship Supervisor.

Upon program completion, you will understand the relationship between the pedagogical objectives of your school and the abundant range of skills, talents, and interests of a diverse community of learners. You will be prepared to participate in curriculum development projects, supervise classroom teachers and cooperating teacher positions, and assume department head and professional mentorship activities.
